US Marshals Service Anniversary Commemorative Silver Dollar to be Minted in 2015

Three coins commemorating the 225th Anniversary of the legendary United States Marshals Service will be produced in 2015. A silver dollar will depict historic frontier lawmakers on one side and the US Marshal’s Service Star on the other.

Produced by the US Mint in a maximum number of 500,000 coins, the silver dollars will bear the anniversary dates 1789 and 2014, in addition to the 2015 mintage date. The coins, which will be sold starting mid-January, will not be minted after the last day of 2015.

A limited number of the coins will be distributed to members of the US Marshals Service. Surcharges earned from sales of the coins will benefit the US Marshalls Museum, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association Foundation and the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.

The Senate bill authorizing the coins passed in 2011, and stipulates that production must not incur any net governmental costs.
