Product Details
This amazing 1908 Hungarian 100 Korona Gold Coin is a resin restrike of these historical rounds now produced by the Austrian Mint in honor of Hungary. Throughout the 19th century and into the early 20th century, Hungary was a part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. However, following the dissolution of the empire after World War I, Hungary became an independent nation, and this korona design was introduced as its fiat currency. The 1908 Hungary 100 Korona Gold Coins are a special restrike issued by the Austrian Mint in tribute to Hungary. This round features a unique design distinct from the more commonly issued 100 Coronas of Austria, although both depict Franz Joseph I. Each coin is in About Uncirculated (AU) condition, showing minor signs of wear, corresponding to a Sheldon scale grade range of 50 to 58. The obverse of the coin displays Franz Joseph I, who served as Emperor of the Austro-Hungarian Empire from 1848 to 1916, portrayed as a full-length figure holding a scepter and a crowned sphere. The reverse showcases the Hungarian coat of arms, featuring a crowned shield supported by angels, with all inscriptions in Hungarian. Despite their Hungarian designs, these coins were minted at the Austrian Mint, one of Europe’s oldest, established in 1194 during the reign of Duke Leopold V.
