Product Details

The American Gold Eagle is one of the world’s most recognized and beautiful bullion coins. Since its introduction in 1986, it has become one of the most popular ways of owning gold. In addition to containing a full ounce of pure gold, each American Gold Eagle contains a small amount of copper and silver to provide durability. This 22-karat alloy protects each coin from damage and wear.

GSM is now offering Random Year 1 oz American Gold Eagle. The U. S. Mint first began production of this iconic coin in 1986, after the Gold Bullion Coin Act of 1985 was passed. Due to this legislation, the American Gold Eagle has been minted using 22 karat (.9167%) gold, and all the gold has been sourced in America. The 1 oz American Gold Eagle is legal tender, and carries a face value of $50.00.

On the obverse (front) side of the coin, the beloved Lady Liberty is featured, striding confidently forward, sun rays shining outwards, as the Capitol building stands in the background. She is cloaked in flowing garb, and her hair billows out behind her. Clutched in one hand is a burning torch, while the other hand holds an olive branch. Surrounding the coin are 50 stars, meant to represent the 50 United States. The word “Liberty” is above her head, and the year of production is to the right of Lady Liberty. The artwork was originally designed by August Saint-Gaudens for a $20 gold coin that was minted from 1907 to 1933, and has grown to be a favorite among collectors.

The reverse (back) of the coin, designed by sculptor Miley Tucker-Frost, features a beautiful scene of a male American bald eagle taking care of his family. He has a branch clutched in his talons as he is hovering over a nest where a female bald eagle is tending to their two young chicks. Along the top of the coin is inscribed “The United States of America”, while along the bottom you will find “1 oz. Fine Gold”, and “50 Dollars”. To the left of the eagles you will find “E Pluribus Unum”, while on the right it says “In God We Trust”.

The 1 oz American Gold Eagle coin has the deserved reputation of being one of the most popular and collected gold bullion coins, and considering its great value, and historic, stunning design, it is easy to see why. Buy yours from Golden State Mint today to take advantage of our low prices, and great service.
