The obverse depicts Britannia's right-profile holding her shield decorated with her name and the Union Jack flag in her right hand, her trident for controlling the seas in her left hand, and the Corinthian helmet of protection resting on her head. The reverse contains the seal of the Royal Mint of England, Europe's oldest currently-operating mint. Below this seal is the bar's weight, purity, and metal content with the shape of sea waves at at the bottom.
