In 2010 the five largest silver mines were the Cannington Mine in Australia, Fresnillo Silver Mine in Mexico, San Cristobal Polymetallic in Bolivia, Antamina Copper Mine in Peru and the Rudna Copper Mine in Poland. The largest of these mines produces 38.6 Moz of silver in a year.
However, just in the U.S. alone there is an abundance of silver to be mined. Some of the finest quality silver comes from mines in Alaska, Arizona, Colorado and California.
It is projected that by 2015, the largest silver mines will shift to become the Pascua Lama mine in Chile, Navidad in Argentina, Juanicipio in Mexico, Malku Khota in Bolivia and Hackett River in Canada.
Where is all of this raw metal going? The largest market for silver is in industrial application, specifically for electrical connectors. The second biggest market for silver is, of course, jewelry. The photographic field also necessitates the use of much silver.
Silver is a highly coveted metal in the market today to serve as a sound investment for future profits.
