US House of Representatives Bill H.R. 4107 seeks to recognize the 100 year anniversary of the US entrance into World War I with a commemorative silver dollar. Introduced at the end of February 2012 by Republican, Doug Lamborn, the new issue will fill the gap in commemorative coins to honor American WWI veterans. US commemorative coins have been designed for other great American conflicts, including WWII, the Civil War, the Vietnam War and the Korean War.
The design for the proposed coin would be selected by a juried competition where drafts would be judged by the secretary of the US treasury and three Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee members. 350,000 silver coins would be minted in 90% silver and 10% copper, similar to other recent commemoratives. Sold for one calendar year, beginning January 2017, the price of each coin would include a $10 surcharge for donation to restore and rededicate the DC War Memorial as a WWI memorial (www.wwimemorial.org)
